2020 Open Trials

Cavalry FC, Calgary’s Canadian Premier League men’s professional soccer team, will host open trials on the 27th & 28th of February at the Calgary Foothills Soccer Club.

The Cavalry FC Open Trials are open to males aged 16 years and older. Cavalry FC coaching, scouting and technical staff will be in attendance for the full-day sessions to assess participants.

Trials will be held over a period of two days. On Day 1, each player will be evaluated through a series of fitness exercises and testing, soccer specific drills and assessments.

At the end of Day 1, a limited number of players will be selected and invited back for Day 2, which will focus on small-sided and 11 vs. 11 games. Successful players could receive an invitation to Cavalry FC’s pre-season camp beginning in March.

There is a registration fee of $150 per person. The fee will cover the following: A detailed performance evaluation summary including fitness test results, administrative fees, a Cavalry FC training shirt, and access to sports medical staff at sessions (if required). Registration will be capped at 80 players; participants are responsible for all travel costs incurred and must come prepared with their own kit (see FAQs below for further information).

Registration opens on the 7th February and is required in advance of the trials.  Please note that registration closes on the 24th February and is limited to 80 people.

Refunds WILL NOT be issued for registrations after February 21, 2020.

Open Trial FAQs

Will Cavalry FC cover any costs outside the trial?

No, all participants are required to incur all expenses including travel, accommodation, rental vehicles, food and beverage (lunch will only be provided on trial days) during your visit – if you are traveling from outside of Calgary.  Cavalry FC will not assist in obtaining Travel Visas for participants.

 

How much does it cost to register?

Is lunch provided on trial days?

Yes, there will be lunch provided on both days.  If you have any allergies or food aversions, please bring your own lunch.

Please bring all equipment you need to participate in fitness exercises and testing, soccer-specific drills and assessments.  This includes; shorts, shirt (a jersey and or pinny will be provided for game play), socks, shin pads, soccer cleats (NO METAL STUDS), goalie gloves, protective equipment, and a water bottle.  We will have water coolers, but please bring your own bottle.

How will I know if I make it past the first day?

We will be letting all participants know at the end of Day 1.  We will also be sending a confirmation email and text message.

 

If I cannot attend the trial, when can I tryout next?

We will not be holding any other open trial this season.  We will plan another trial next year, in February.
