Cavalry FC confirms the re-signing of Richard Luca (BRA)

Calgary, AB (December 4, 2020) – Cavalry FC has re-signed Brazilian forward Richard Luca Rosa Da Silva Sousa (BRA), simply known as Richard Luca, for the 2021 season on a multi-year agreement.

The twenty-three-year old comes to us from the Goiás region of Brazil, roughly 200km’s from the capital city of Brasilia. Having spent time with prestigious Santos FC (BRA), Richard made a move to Correcaminos UAT (MEX). In 2019, he went on loan to FC Torpedo Kutaisi of the Georgian top division where he scored 5 goals in 14 matches. Furthermore, Richard is a former Brazilian youth international at the U17 level and the skillful Brazilian can play on either wing or as an attacking midfielder.

Luca was set to join Cavalry FC for the 2020 Canadian Premier League season, but unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic was unable to cross the boarder. He is currently training with Mexican team Saltillo Fútbol Club.

“Richard stayed true to his desire to play for our club and we stayed true in our belief in him to be a difference maker for us and in this league.  The COVID-19 restrictions impacted how we wanted to play this year, but also impacted a special young man in his career.  We are excited to have been able to move forward with our agreement to bring Richard Luca to our team for 2021.  He is a player that will have our fans out of their seats.”

– Tommy Wheeldon Jr. (Head Coach & General Manager)

Richard Luca is expected to arrive in Calgary March 2021 to begin training pending the expected approval of appropriate visas/work permits.
