eCPL returns with ‘Own The North’ EA Sports FIFA 21 Global Series qualifying tournament

Canadian gamers rejoice: eCPL is back.

The Canadian Premier League and Electronic Arts have announced the second annual eCanadian Premier League (eCPL) tournament, offering Canadians the chance to compete and represent CPL clubs in EA SPORTS™ FIFA 21 with the chance to qualify for the EA SPORTS™ FIFA 21 Global Series competition.

The eCPL 2021 OWN THE NORTH tournament kicks off March 23-24 with the first eCPL Trials event on Xbox followed by a Playstation qualifier on April 6-7. Registration is now open and can be accessed here.

The top eight players from both qualifiers earn spots in the eCPL Finals on April 14 (Xbox) and April 21 (Playstation) set to be streamed at twitch.tv/ecpl. These two champions will win $2,000 CAD each and the right to represent Canada at the North America Playoffs on the road to the FIFA eWorld Cup.

The entirety of the 2021 competitive eCPL season will be online.

eCanadian Premier League tournament key dates:

March 10-23, 2021 – Registration
March 23-24, 2021 – Online Trials (Xbox)
April 6-7, 2021 – Online Trials (PlayStation)
April 14, 2021 – Final (Xbox)
April 21, 2021 – Final (PlayStation)

We can’t wait to see our two eCPL Champions represented at the North American Regional Playoffs and potentially the FIFA eWorld Cup.”

The eCPL launched in 2020 and held two qualifying events – hosted by Pacific FC and Cavalry FC – before COVID-19 restrictions shuttered qualifiers and the EA SPORTS™ Global Series. A CPL-hosted “Home to Play” series followed with eight CPL players joining top FIFA players. HFX Wanderers FC won that first eCPL title with goalkeeper Christian Oxner and FIFA pro Pedram Malakiam.
