CALGARY, AB (September 6, 2020) – Cavalry FC forward Oliver Minatel (BRA) is now on the road to recovery following an injury sustained during the match versus York9 FC held on September 5, 2020.

Minatel sustained a fractured tibia and fibula following a challenge on the pitch. Cavalry FC training staff and on-call paramedics were quick to respond and assess the injury transporting Minatel to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. A successful surgery was performed the same evening and Minatel will remain with the team through the remaining Island Games.

“We wish Oliver a speedy recovery from this and are comforted knowing he is the ultimate professional that will do whatever it takes to return to the pitch for us next season. It shows the incredible character Oliver has that as soon as he came out of surgery, he immediately sent a congratulatory note to the team on our group chat.” – Tommy Wheeldon Jr (Head Coach & General Manager, Cavalry FC).

Cavalry FC would like to thank all the fans and supporters for their well wishes and kind words to Oliver as he embarks on the road to recovery. A special thank you to medical staff both at (UPEI) Alumni Turf Field and Queen Elizabeth Hospital including Dr. AJ Biswas and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Scott Wotherspoon, for their care of Oliver.
