Cavalry FC Adds Familiar CPL Face to the 2022 Roster

Calgary, AB (February 9, 2022) –  Cavalry FC is excited to announce the signing of Scottish-Canadian player Fraser Aird to the 2022 roster.

Aird began his professional career at the age of sixteen after signing with Scottish Premiership club Rangers FC, where he made 85 appearances scoring 12 goals and providing 16 assists. After five years with the Rangers, Aird went on loan to Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps before returning to Scotland. For the next four years, Aird continued to play in Scotland for Scottish Championship sides Falkirk, Dunfermline Athletic, and Queen of the South, as well as Dundee United and Cove Rangers, before returning to Canada to ply his trade. Aird accumulated a total of 223 professional appearances, contributed to 29 goals, and provided 51 assists.

In 2020, Aird travelled back to Canada to sign for Canadian Premier League side Valour FC and represented them in the shortened 2020 season at the Island Games in Prince Edward Island, before joining FC Edmonton later that year. In the 2021 regular season, Aird made 28 appearances for FC Edmonton, scoring five goals and five assists.

Aird also holds dual Canadian and Scottish citizenship, making him eligible to represent both national teams. The versatile wide player represented Scotland at the U17 and U19 youth levels, before switching allegiance to Canada where he has gone on to appear in eight games, and even scored against Scotland.

“I’m buzzing to join Cavalry, I’ve always admired how they played and their winning mentality. I’m looking forward to playing in front of the loud Cavalry faithful at ATCO Field. Hopefully, I can add the little bit to the squad that they were missing and we can go all the way and win the league this season!” – Fraser Aird, on signing with Cavalry FC

“We are delighted to add Fraser to our team, he is a player that has exceptional quality and a great end product that will add more goal opportunities for our team. He is a fierce competitor with a wealth of experience from his time in Scotland, the Canadian national team, and has already made an impact here in the CPL. In signing Fraser, we have got a big character in the locker room and an impact player on the pitch that ultimately makes us an even better squad.” – Tommy Wheeldon Jr., Head Coach & General Manager, Cavalry FC
