Calgary, AB (April 13, 2023) – Cavalry FC  announces Goalkeeper Marco Carducci as the upcoming seasons Captain, with Vice Captains Jose Escalante and Sergio Camargo.

Having signed a three-year contract extension with the club following the 2022 season, Carducci has been handed the armband and will be leading the club for the 2023 season. Since joining the club in 2019, Carducci has showcased his leadership both on and off the pitch through become a two-time golden glove winner (2019 and 2022), accumulating 30 clean sheets within 92 appearances over four seasons.

“Marco is the perfect choice to lead our team on and off the field,” says Cavalry FC Head Coach and General Manager, Tommy Wheeldon Jr. “His performances speak for themselves; he is one of the top performers in this league and we are fortunate to have him wear our crest. In addition to his ability, Marco is a fantastic human being with incredible character and integrity, something we hold very high within our leadership structure, and we’re excited to see his impact on the club moving forward as our captain.”

Cavalry FC veterans Sergio Camargo and Jose Escalante will act as the club’s vice-captains for the season, both of which have been at the club since the inaugural 2019 season. With 69 appearances, 15 goals, and seven assists across all competitions since joining, Camargo is prepared to take the pitch after returning from injury and will be doing so alongside Carducci and Escalante. Throughout his career with Cavalry FC, Escalante has made 88 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals, and providing 16 assists. As a member of the captains, Escalante will be showcasing both his footwork and leadership on the pitch in 2023.

Cavalry FC will kick off their 2023 Season away to Forge FC on April 15th and will return to ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows for their home opener against Valour FC on April 30th.
