Cavalry FC Hosts Indigenous Peoples Celebration Match

Calgary, AB (May 26, 2023) – Cavalry FC of the Canadian Premier League will hold an Indigenous Peoples Celebration Match presented by ATCO on Saturday, June 3 at 2 p.m. MT on ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows as they face Forge FC.

The Indigenous Peoples Celebration Match, presented by ATCO, will honour Indigenous communities through several initiatives. Ahead of kick-off, attendees can enjoy an informative Powwow demonstration in the Rümi stage area in the Lower Plaza, complete with stories and explanations of each dance. The Lower Plaza will also host Indigenous vendors, providing Cavalry FC supporters the opportunity to purchase locally crafted products and support Indigenous communities. All 50/50 donations from each Cavalry FC home match leading up to June 3 will go to the Iyarhe Nakoda Food Bank.

“We are incredibly proud to be involved in the Indigenous Peoples celebration,” says Cole Crook, VP Indigenous Relations at ATCO. “ATCO has long stood for creating healthy vibrant communities, forming strong relationships, and supporting educational and athletic events that promote growth and the pursuit of excellence. All these elements will intersect at ATCO Field on June 3.”

Cavalry FC has invited more than 430 Indigenous athletes and their families from Team Alberta ahead of the North American Indigenous Games, made possible with ticketing partners Trico Homes and Marmot Construction. Of the athletes invited, there are three soccer teams that will compete in the 2023 games in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Members of the soccer teams have been invited to Spruce Meadows to take part in a training session on June 4 at one of Cavalry FC’s facilities.

“It is an honour and pleasure for Cavalry FC and our partners to work with and recognize the Indigenous Communities here on the traditional territories of the Treaty 7 Nations and the Metis Nation of Region 3,” says Ian Allison, President & C.O.O. of Cavalry FC. “Not only will the day recognize rich history and traditions, but it will also celebrate the future and sport. The young Indigenous athletes that will join us on June 3, and thousands more across this land, will play an important part in the day and the future.”

Cavalry FC will kick off on Saturday, June 3 at 2:00 p.m. MT as they host Forge FC on ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows.
