Cavalry FC Select Caden Rogozinski and Rodane Cato in 2024 CPL U SPORTS Draft

December 14, 2023 – Cavalry FC of the Canadian Premier League (CPL) today announced that the club has selected defender Caden Rogozinski and midfielder Rodane Cato in the 2024 CPL U SPORTS Draft.

Calgary native Rogozinski is a third-year defender captain at Mount Royal University (MRU) and was previously drafted by Cavalry in 2022. Rogozinski is a graduate of the Calgary Foothills academy and previously played for League1 Ontario side Electric City FC and League1 BC’s Victoria Highlanders. Rogozinski is described as a dominant defender with great speed and physicality who reads situations very well, whilst being comfortable in possession during the build up.

Edmonton native Cato is a third-year midfielder at the University of Alberta (UofA) who previously played for League1 Alberta side St. Albert Impact. Cato is described as strong defensively with outstanding ability to intercept and nullify opposition threats, whilst also having a great ability at moving play forwards and turning defences into attacks. The dynamic midfielder works with former Cavalry FC midfielder and current UofA Assistant Coach, Bruno Zebie.

Both players have had excellent U SPORTS seasons and are players that we’ve monitored extensively, including their League1 play during the summer,” said Tommy Wheeldon Jr., Head Coach & General Manager, Cavalry FC.

“Caden we arguably drafted too early and perhaps felt he wasn’t ready in 2022. However, the growth in his game and as a person has been exceptional to witness and we feel he has an even better shot with his hometown team this season. He’s physically and mentally more prepared with the experiences he’s gained since. Rodane is a different type of player to what we have currently, he’s dynamic and has a quick and aggressive first few steps, something that is pivotal in the midfield area in the Canadian Premier League. A huge credit to both Ryan Gyaki & his coaching staff at MRU and Marty Anderson and his coaching staff at U of A for their work in developing these players.”
