Calgary, AB (June 29, 2023) – Cavalry FC today announced the acquisition of 19-year-old attacking midfielder Maël Henry from Vancouver FC. Cavalry FC has also announced the transfer of Mikaël Cantave to Vancouver.
Henry is a young talented, attacking midfielder who made his debut in the Canadian youth program at only 14 years old. In 2019, he represented Canada at the CONCACAF Boys’ Under-15 Championship. In 2022, he again represented the country at the CONCACAF Men’s Under-20 Championship, where he made two appearances, scoring against St. Kitts and Nevis. Henry has spent most of his career with the CF Montreal academy, where he scored five goals in 13 appearances during the 2023 Premiere ligue de soccer du Quebec season.
“Maël is a young player of very high potential,” says Tommy Wheeldon Jr., Head Coach and General Manager, Cavalry FC. “We felt we needed another player that could acquire more U21 minutes for us over not only this season, but the next few seasons. He’s a player that our recruitment department has done a lot of scouting on and feel that he has a high ceiling for us to develop. Maël is a creative player with a strong feel for the ball and intelligent game sense. He likes to connect possession and create opportunities for others, whilst also being clever with his defensive pressing moments.”
Cavalry FC would like to thank Mikaël Cantave for his services to the club during his time in Calgary and wish him well in his next chapter with Vancouver FC.
Cavalry FC travels to face Valour FC on Saturday, July 1, and will return to ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows to host Atlético Ottawa on July 12th at 6:30 p.m. MT.
