Cavalry FC Announces Commitment to Charitable Initiatives with Women for Men’s Health
Calgary, AB (December 6, 2023) – Cavalry FC of the Canadian Premier League has announced that the club has committed to charitable initiatives with Women for Men’s Health for the 2024 season.
In February 2022, Cavalry FC goalkeeper Marco Carducci was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Since then, Carducci has been an advocate and ambassador for men’s health and health awareness – which has formed a strong connection between the club and Women For Men’s Health.

“I’m very excited to see the commitment between Women for Men’s Health and Cavalry FC,” said Marco Carducci, Goalkeeper, Cavalry FC. “Women for Men’s Health is doing meaningful work around men’s health and the cross-section with vulnerability and a “new” masculinity – which are areas close to home for me since my testicular cancer diagnosis. The advocacy and fundraising work that they are doing is something I’m proud to see Cavalry FC support. And a very special mention to Dr. Shelley Spaner – a dear friend and an inspiration, for all her hard work for men’s health initiatives.”

Dr. Shelley Spaner is a radiologist who founded Women For Men’s Health in 2016 intending to close the gender gap in health and wellness. Dr. Spaner was introduced to Carducci during his diagnosis in 2022 at Mayfair Diagnostics, bringing the club and organization together.

“Marco used his platform to increase awareness surrounding the importance of talking about this cancer, early detection and by discussing the mental health challenges that this cancer diagnosis brings with it.” Said Dr. Shelley Spaner, Founder, Women For Men’s Health. “His openness undoubtedly helped countless people in our community.”

The 2023 season kicked off with the Big Ball in January, which featured Carducci as the ambassador for the annual event. Cavalry FC coaches, players, and staff all attended, leading to the organization raising over $200,000 in support of reducing the gender health equity gap.
In August, Cavalry FC held its first-ever Charity Golf Classic – in support of Women For Men’s Health. The tournament was a major success, having raised over $50,000. The club will be bringing the tournament back in 2024 with proceeds going to Women For Men’s Health.
Cavalry FC will be taking part in the 2024 Big Ball as the club hosts the VIP reception on February 2nd.
“Our relationship continues to flourish, and we are excited to welcome Cavalry FC as the hosts for our first-ever VIP lounge at the 2024 Big Ball at Hotel Arts. As we continue to grow, we will work together to support programs and initiatives that will improve the mental and physical health of the men in our community.”
