Calgary, AB (November 16, 2023) – Cavalry FC forward William Akio has been named to the 26-man shortlist for South Sudan ahead of their FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in Senegal.

Since joining Cavalry FC in the summer of 2023, he scored five goals in 10 league appearances, making an instant impact when arriving. Akio will have the opportunity to be selected by South Sudan in their two upcoming matches as they look to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. South Sudan will face Senegal on November 18, followed by Mauritania on November 21. Both fixtures will be held at Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade in Diamniadio, Senegal.
